Celebrating the Businesses
New businesses are vital to our town’s economy, and what better way to welcome them to our community than with ribbon cutting ceremony.
Despite already being open and operating 3 Amigo’s Cantina celebrated an official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on July 7th, 2020. Restaurant officially opened in March, but COVID-19 prevented Ribbon Cutting. Joe Leach is the owner of 3 Amigo’s Cantina. The restaurant is located at 600 Main St. 3 Amigo’s Cantina is focused on serving traditional Mexican cuisine and offers a full bar.
After being opened and operating for few weeks, a formal ribbon cutting ceremony was held on July 8thfor the 9 Juan Juan food truck. Rhonda Williams and Jody Gallino are new owners of 9 Juan Juan, that offers Mexican food. Location of the food truck is on the corner of Main St. and South Blvd.
Housing Gathering
Wall Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors and Housing Committee of WEDC had several discussions about what is the next step for housing development in Wall was. They indicated several properties that could be potentially developed. Last month executive director Liliya Stone attended Housing Gathering in Pierre to meet with potential developers and resource providers. After having several conversations with developers, Stone decided to address housing incentives to the city council. She encouraged council to provide housing incentives for the property that Housing Committee identified as the next step for housing development. On July 16th Wall City Council membersmade a decision,per economic development director request, to support Housing development of the potential property. Rubble site fees for demo would be waived and the city would extend water and sewer utilities to the property line as needed. WEDC believes it would make Wall more attractive for developers.
Safety route to school
Safe Routes to School provide safety and benefits for students and to the whole community. It promotes walking and bicycling, addresses traffic dangers and improves safety for students.
Economic Development and the City of Wall have been taking steps towards walking path development from Kelly Addition to School. This week Department of Transportation, City Engineers, Black Hills Local Governments, Public works and Economic Development Director had a first walking audit to identify location of the potential walking path and gather information for the grant application.
The main focus is to create safe path from Kelly Addition to School.
Farewell
Wall Economic Development said goodbyes to Dani Herring, who stepped down from WEDC Board to pursue other professional interests. Dani served on the Board from 2016. Board service is one of the toughest volunteer roles of all, and she performed it with dedication and tenacity. Her knowledge and work experience were instrumental in “Beef to School” program. It’s so hard to see Dani leave, but WEDC is very proud of her achievements!
Welcome New Board Member!
Meet the newest member of the Wall Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors Steven Edoff.
Steven is from New Underwood, SD and he grew up on a ranch about 20 miles south of there. After high school He served 4 years in the active army and moved back to SD in 2014 to raise his family. Steven married with 4 kids and him and his wife couldn’t think of a better place to raise them than SD. His family lives between New Underwood and Wicksville and they enjoy almost every sport that comes along. “Baseball, wrestling, and gymnastics seem to be our favorite so far.”- said Steven
Steven attended Black Hills State University and studied accounting. He currently work for Brett Blasius at First Interstate Bank.
“I joined the WEDC to become more familiar with the community. I also think it’s a great way to give back to a town that has treated me and my family so well over the past year. I look forward to making Wall my children’s “hometown.””- Steven said.
Skyview Movie Nights
The summer Sky-view movie night kicked off on Sunday, July 12thwith “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and July 25thwith “Trolls World Tour”.
The drive-in series plan to screen “Grease” on August 1st. The features for August 21stand August 29thhave not been announced yet.
Visitors can watch drive-in movies from the parking lot behind the Power House. They can stay in their cars and listen to the movie audio through the radio station 88.1 FM or bring a chair and enjoy the show outside.
